Matrixing/Pareidolia Example:

Robert "Odd Bob" Markin and former Investigator Mary Cole of Rock Paranormal were conducting a practice investigation at a Cemetery in Southern, Wisconsin. They did not seem to find any evidence, until they were reviewing photos captured during the vigil. We came across this photo which seems to capture the head and face of the ghost of a soldier, whose grave appears in the photograph (With the flag) :

We returned immediately to try and see if we could re-create the image and/or get additional photos (perhaps even attempt to make contact with what clearly was a spirit haunting the cemetery). However, after using a higher resolution on our digital camera, we found that our photo was a perfect example of pareidolia, or what is also known as "matrixing", where the human brain attempts to make unknown objects/shapes into something familiar:

In the second picture, you can clearly see that the moss and discoloration from weathering on the tombstone in the background, in combination with the lower resolution photo taken from a slightly different angle, caused our eyes and mind to see a face where none actually existed...

Most people experience some form of matrixing in their lives, an example of such phenomenon includes seeing animals or other forms in cloud shapes. However, pareidolia is the specific form of matrixing where people will see faces in random shapes and patterns...
